Homespun, Aratula

Since becoming a Furniture Fashionista, the most frequent questions I am asked is “where did you learn how to do this and can you please show me how to re-upholster and up-cycle my own furniture”. So I decided to teach a class at the workshop at Homespun, where my furniture is on sale, for anyone interested in learning the basics of upholstery.

EMILY UPHOLSTER ME

Date: Saturday, 28th of April 2012
Time: 10:00am to 12:00pm
Cost: $35.00 includes a $50 Furniture Fashionista voucher and a slice of arguably the best cheesecake you’ve ever had.
Location: Homespun, Cunningham Highway, Aratula

What will you learn:
This is not a standard upholstery class, it is a look into how I pick my fabrics and how to take something ordinary and turn it into a design statement no matter if your style is modern, retro, traditional or shabby-chic.

I will walk you through:

  • What tools you need and where to get them
  • What fabrics to choose the to suit YOUR style
  • The techniques you need to know to get a professional finish.

You will get hands-on experience reupholstering chairs that I will supply for you to practice your newly learnt skills on so you can go home confident that you can tackle your own project.

Places are limited, for further information and to book, please contact Justine at Homespun on 0423 479 649 or email jj.cadena@bigpond.com

New Product – French Inspired Children’s Chair

Mar 1, 2012 by

From a drawing I did at the markets on Saturday to actuality. This gorgeous little kids chair is our prototype of this design thanks to Daniel’s handiwork. Tomorrow it will get a lick of paint and upholstery. I’ll post a pic when it’s all finished. This little throne is for my Princess Lillyana but we are taking orders soon.

POÄNG Armchair Cover

The Ikea POÄNG armchair has become a very common item in many Australian homes, but the variety of fabrics this Ikea staple comes in is, um, underwhelming. I am available to make a cover for your POÄNG or any other chair you may have. Please contact me at emily@furniturefashionista.com.au.

Reupholstery – Julie’s Couch

Reupholstery – Julie’s Couch

Reupholstery is so much fun when you can turn something truly hideous into something this fantastic! A commissioned piece my client, Julie, knew she wanted to use the Gullvi (faces) fabric from Ikea, but she was worried that over the whole couch it would look too much and would turn something cool into something very not!

The solution was to use the Gullvi as the removeable and washable slip covers over the seat and back cushion while upholstering the main body and arms of the couch in a heavy-duty black upholstery fabric. The black provides a backdrop to allow the Gullvi fabric to really pop and if it ever does get too much, it won’t be a full reupholstery job, just a couple of new cushion covers. And the stripe ties the couch in to another piece of furniture in the room and provides that punctuation mark!

If you have a piece you want re-imagined, let me know at emily@furniturefashionista.com.au.
